When you first start Astanga yoga you will probably find that it is difficult to reach a meditative state of mind because the postures are so physically challenging. In the early stages, you will find yourself pushing and pulling, huffing and puffIng, and incapable of much ref’mement of your breath or posture. At a later stage, however, you will find that a transformation occurs. You will notice a feeling of lightness and ease in a few postures, which in time spreads to others. Very accomplished practitioners are able to find lightness and ease in every pose most times they practise. They appear to be floating through the whole sequence with delicate care and precision, and report great mental clarity and calm.
